Boating and Cruises in York
The city of York owes its existence to the rivers. Escape the city rush and admire the scenery from the comfort of a Yorkboat. Escape the hustle and bustle of the City and relax with beautiful scenario of York. A great photographic opportunity and chance to see the fascinating buildings, bridges and historic sights on the River Ouse in York. Look for stunning wildlife including Kingfishers. Treat yourself to a drink from the bar and rest your feet!
The city was founded in AD 71, when Romans constructed a fortress above the River Ouse close to its confluence with the River Foss. These natural barriers made it an ideal defensive site that over the years brought both invaders and trade to the city. Today both of these rivers remain navigable. Until the end of the 20th century, the Ouse was used by barges to carry freight but now it offers a lovely escape from the 'hustle-and-bustle' of the city.
York Marina now has some great facilities including over 300 moorings, boat sales & brokerage, chandlery and waterfront cafe, marine engineering, boat hire and caravan site. Boat hire on the river Ouse has a lot to offer for anyone who wants to take the day out and get away from it all. Its never been easier to get on the water with no previous experience required and no hassle involved. We provide you with lifejackets and insurance and fuel is included in our prices to make life simple. We have a small fleet of Quicksilver Activ open boats available for self drive hire throughout the year. We offer hire periods from half a day up to a full day depending on your requirements. Explore the beautiful River Ouse from Naburn Lock to Linton Lock, taking in such sights as the splendor of Bishopthorpe Palace and the picturesque historic centre of York. Our Activ 555 is suitable for up to 6 adults and our Activ 675 is suitable for up to 8 adults.
City Cruises York, formerly YorkBoat, are proud to be a part of the City Cruises family, joining the outstanding operations in London and Poole. Over the course of 2017, the YorkBoat name and logo will be phased out and we will now be operating as City Cruises York. You can still expect the same fantastic service from our team and all existing online and office bookings will, of course, be honoured. We remain a family owned operator, albeit now part of a much larger one.
