Established in 2014, Say Owt Slam is a raucous evening of poet vs poet in a fun night of verse. Poets have three minutes to wow YOU the audience. Expect poetry with humour and heart, comedy and charisma, stories and sizzling spoken word! Hosted by the loveable boys Henry and Stu. It’s a cracking night out for poetry fans…and those not yet converted.

There are two ticket options in advance: £8 and £13. Choose whichever tier you want. All tickets £15 on the door. If finances are a barrier, let us know and we can sort something out.

We are delighted to welcome SHAREEFA ENERGY as our special guest for her first ever York performance!

Shareefa Energy is a poet, writer, activist, educator, creative campaigner, workshop facilitator and arts and wellbeing practitioner of Indian and Muslim heritage from working class Highfields in Leicester. She is the author of poetry collection Galaxy Walk, endorsed by the late Benjamin Zephaniah. Her poetry is raw, honest and consistent against injustice. She was awarded with the UK Entertainment Best Poet 2017 Award, a nominee for the Muslim Women Arts & Entertainment Awards 2021 and for the Eastern Eye Arts, Culture & Theatre 2019 award by the Arts Council. She has featured on BBC The One Show, Channel 4 and ITV. She’s facilitated creative writing, poetry, storytelling and performance workshops internationally, from Palestine to Sierra Leone with schools, universities, academics, in immigration detention centres, with survivors of domestic violence and with those impacted by state violence. She was lead facilitator and performed for The Freedom Theatre’s first Feminist Theatre Festival 2022 in Jenin Refugee Camp in the West Bank.
