The History of Barley Hall, York

In the fourteenth century, a house was built for the use of Nostell Priory. In the following century, it became the home of a goldsmith and Alderman of York. Confiscated by the Crown in 1540, it somehow survived – masked by a modern façade – until it was rediscovered and restored to its former glory. This Saturday course will explore the ‘life’ of Barley Hall, from its construction to its restoration. It will also discuss the lives of its inhabitants across the centuries.
