¡Tropica! 2023 Picnic in the Park and After-Party at The Winning Post
‘A fundraiser to appreciate and assist the great work carried out by Friends Of Rowntree Park 365 days a year’
Celebrate winding down for the summer with us.
Saturday the 1st July is a date for your diary – the third annual ¡Tropica! Picnic in the Park featuring York’s ¡Tropica! Global Dance Music DJ Crew takes place from midday until 7pm at The Amphitheatre in Rowntree Park. This FREE event, a fundraiser for the Friends of Rowntree Park, was a great success last year so why not join us and swell the numbers even more on July 1st? Just bring a picnic, corral the kids, dig out the dog and come along for some or all of our day. With all-day DJs and guests including the movers & shakers from York’s wonderful Crescent Community Venue and a beautifully decorated arena our aim is simply to enjoy a day of communal celebration and relaxation in gorgeous surroundings.
we’re bringing new features this year to add to the fun and engagement:
– we’ll be holding a free salsa dance class for beginners in the early afternoon (time tbc) hosted by local dance teacher Sita Mamasita
– we’ll also be moving on to The Winning Post on Bishopthorpe Road for a non-stop dancing evening after-party from 8pm until 11:30pm with our special guests from Scotland – Karawane Sound. Very reasonably-priced tickets are available from Fatsoma.com and, for this event, all profits will go to Friends of Rowntree Park.
Banners are placed at park entrances and at the evening venue of The Winning Post on Bishopthorpe Road from the beginning of June, these include QR codes with which visitors can make a donation to the Friends Of Rowntree Park. On the day QR codes will be found attached to trees, fences, walls etc around the park, asking visitors to Pay As You Feel and help F.O.R.P. maintain the beautiful space we all love to use. Alternatively, on the day we’ll be running round with collection buckets so you can choose to toss some cash into those. ¡Tropica! Crew makes no money from Picnic in the Park and all costs are borne by the group to ensure a maximum take to support the excellent work carried out year in year out in the upkeep of this fabulous free-for-all resource, one of the country’s finest and most picturesque public spaces.
