Finding us
York Steiner School is in a quiet corner of York – just a short walk through a leafy lane brings you to the Millennium Bridge on the River Ouse where you can walk along the river to the city centre. This takes around 10-15 minutes.
Various buses pass nearby – the most regular is the No 7 First Bus which runs every ten minutes and stops very close to the school, or you can catch the 415 with links to Selby. This picks up from various central locations including the train station.

About York Steiner School
For more than 40 years, the York Steiner school has been committed to providing a Steiner Waldorf education that promotes children’s intellectual and emotional wellbeing.
Our broad and creative curriculum puts curiosity and engagement at the heart of learning to nurture a strong sense of self-worth and self-belief. Art, craft, games, music and drama are cornerstones of our education. They create a rhythm to the day and ensure a balance of cognitive, artistic, physical and experiential learning. Wherever possible, we teach lessons outdoors immersed in nature, allowing children to experience the seasons, observe ecosystems and build an understanding and love of the natural world.
What makes York Steiner School unique amongst others is our strength in community. Community is at the heart of our school ethos. Be that community in the classroom, community across the school or the strength of community amongst our parents, carers, friends and alumni. At York Steiner school, we embrace a culture of kindness and celebrate meaningful connections. It is a truly inclusive school, where every child is held and belongs.
With over 1,200 schools and nearly 1,900 kindergartens across 70 countries, Waldorf is one of the fastest growing independent school movements in the world.
Steiner Waldorf education meets children’s academic, physical and emotional needs, and inspires a lifelong love of learning. Initially based on the observations of Rudolph Steiner, now grounded in child development and neuroscientific research, Steiner Waldorf education is an integrated and innovative approach to learning. Teaching methods are appropriate to each stage of child development, from the feeling and sensory world of small children in the early years, through to the intellectual and thinking life of young people in Upper School.
