Gladys Vintage Tearoom in Seaton Carew, Hartlepool yesterday (August 6) announced it will be permanently closing at the end of the month.
The well-known tearoom is located on The Front by the seaside, offering beachgoers the chance to experience afternoon tea including sandwiches and freshly baked cakes just minutes from the seafront.

In an upsetting post online, the owner confirmed the venue will now close due to ill health as they thanked customers for their support.
The post read: “It is with a heavy heart that I am announcing, Gladys Vintage Tearoom will be closing its doors at the end of the month.
“Due to my health, I cannot give it my full care and attention. I would like to thank my wonderful hard-working staff who tried to hold the fort in my absence.
“My team has been incredible. I would also like to thank every customer who supported Gladys and hope we made memories for those who celebrated their special moments with us. We laughed, cried, and made new friends on the way.

Lovers of the business flooded the comments on the post, sending their well wishes to the owner as one called the tea room a “wonderful venue”.
Another added they “love this little place” as hundreds of residents expressed their devastation at the loss of the well-loved tearoom.
