A POPULAR town centre Italian restaurant has announced its immediate closure.
Salvo’s café, pizzeria and trattoria on Duke Street, Darlington, announced the news via social media on Saturday evening.
It has not given a reason for its closure but has closed its doors for the final time after eight and a half years.
A statement from the restaurant’s owners read: “We are sorry to announce that tonight was our last night.
“We unfortunately are closing our Darlington restaurant. To all our customers a big big Thank You.
“It has been our pleasure and we wish you all the best for the future. To all our staff, current and former another big big thank you for your hard work
“The last 8 and 1/2 years have been a bit of a roller coaster, ups and downs but all in all fun.
“Once again THANK YOU. We are going to miss you.”
Customers commented to pay tribute to the staff and share their memories of the restaurant after the announcement.
Mary Grimes said: “I am devastated!!! So sorry for the people who run it. Always such excellent service and good food. I really feel for all concerned. Just awful.”
Emma Campbell-Critchley added: “This is such sad news I’ve been bringing my running group here for 6 years for our celebration meals. Thanks to all the staff who always looked after us brilliantly. I’m sure this was a tough decision for all the managers and sad news for all the staff.”
“That’s so sad. I loved coming here, loved the delicious food and the atmosphere and the lovely staff,” said Dawn Smith. “I have had some lovely memories from here. It’s such a shame you closing, I am totally gutted. Good luck to you all for the future.”
